Exceptional Excerpts

The Christmas Newsletter from Mark Gibson’s Exceptional Golf @ Royal Pines…

Winning the Queensland PGA teacher of the year was without doubt one of the highlights of 2007…

Harold Swash Putting

Tip: To improve
your golf game...

Only emotionalise the good shots.

To develop this skill you will need to practice this a few times.  It is best practiced over 9 holes played on your own.

Whenever you hit a poor shot, say very little and if you do say anything keep it quiet and calm.  When you hit good shots, really enjoy them and react positively to them.  This will make it easier to recall the good shots when you need to in your next competition round.

Many of you will know that I have putted with the same putter and used the same putting style for over twenty years and I consider myself to be a good putter.

“One hour with Harold Swash and I have changed styles and putters”

It was a defining moment in my golf coaching.  The Harold Swash concept of Pure Roll and how important setup is to that is a new bright light and new dimension to my coaching which I can’t wait to pass onto my students.

I am pleased to offer exclusively to our valued clients a 15 minute Ball Roll Analysis at no charge conducted by one of the Teaching Professionals at the Teaching Centre.

This month we said goodbye to Jim Kennedy who is moving on to new challenges.
We are pleased to announce that Richard Woodhouse and Josh Madden are joining the team at Exceptional Golf @ Royal Pines in the new year.

Josh played College Golf for the University of Nebraska in the USA.  Most recently he has been completing his traineeship at Surfers Paradise Golf Club where the members have really supported Josh’s Coaching Programmes.

Richard’s previous teaching position was at Nelson Golf Club, New Zealand.  Richard is an experienced coach and is passionate about coaching golfers of all abilities from beginners to elite students.

Queensland Junior Team News…

European Golf Conference…

After working with the eighteen members of the Queensland Golf Union Development Squad for seven months towards the end of 2006, the team of six members was chosen to travel to Perth to defend the Australian Title we had won the year before. We met NSW who were favorites in what was to become our main match – all 5 matches went to the 18th hole, all 5 matches finished under par and we lost by ½ match.

All the Queensland players displayed a true fighting spirit and were gracious in defeat.  I was proud to be their coach.  I am currently working with the Development Squad once again and looking forward to the titles to be held in 2008.

Many of you will know that I travelled to Sweden to participate in the European PGA Teaching Conference.  The theme of the conference was “Aiming to Simplify” which fits in with my coaching philosophies to a tee!

The focus was not on swing technique as you would expect, but instead the focus was on:

Pteaching golfers how to have the correct mental process to keep a good round going and

Phow to have the right mental approach to have a long term positive affect on game development.

After attending the conference in Sweden it was onto Interlaken in Switzerland where I was the Keynote Speaker for an eight hour programme on “Holistic Coaching” to 80 Swiss PGA Members.  This is becoming a trend in Europe and has been a cornerstone of my teaching for the last five years.

The focus of my presentation was to show the importance of looking at all the aspects that create the totally educated golfer.  It was an honour to be invited to share my knowledge and successes with other PGA members.

The natural beauty of the Interlaken area is breathtaking and the golf courses are fantastic, I highly recommend you take the opportunity to see for yourself!

Australian Golf Digest’s thumbs up!

“The 7 Simple Secrets to be an Exceptional Golfer”  was in Australian Golf Digest – one of Australia’s premier golfing magazines:

“More concise, portable and interactive than many instruction books, dual Australian PGA Teacher of the Year Gibson joins motivator and entrepreneur Ellis to provide a step-by-step path with space for your own notes at the end of each chapter.  What begins as a guide can quickly become a diary of your improvement!”
