Big surprise at the Queensland PGA Awards

The 2006 QLD PGA Award Winners were announced at the Hilton Brisbane, on Tuesday 13 February with one of the highlights of the night being the crowning of Mark Gibson and Ian Triggs as joint QLD PGA Teaching Professionals of the Year.

"I had been up earlier in the night as part of announcing another award and I inadvertently saw Ian's name on the plaque. I suspected Ian was going to win as he is such as strong and capable teaching professional, so it was no surprise that I spotted his name however I must admit I felt a little disappointed. So you can imagine my reaction and how overjoyed I felt when it was announced that there were joint winners which was quickly followed by both Ian's and my names being read out. I was simply shocked!" said Mark.

In the wake of accepting his award, Mark expressed his pride at winning the prestigious award for the third time. He also said “The teaching of golf is an ongoing education process that I am proud to be part of. I thank my students for their confidence and trust and Royal Pines Resort for providing world class facilities that we are privileged to enjoy.”

Almost 300 guests were present to witness the announcement of the award winners for 2006.
