| Why Get Fit? Many of the recurring faults in golf swings are created by the player using clubs that are not correctly fitted. This often frustrates players and lessens their enjoyment of the wonderful game of golf. There are many reasons why people get fit for golf clubs. The most important one is so that the golfer can maximize his/her potential. Below I will set out some circumstances that will inhibit a golfers improvement that are a result of ill fitted equipment not poor technique. Shafts that
are too short can cause poor posture. This will not only make it difficult to
play well but can cause after golf back pain. From an improvement aspect
clubs that are too short can cause a hunched posture, an inability to turn, a
lack of power through poor weight transfer and an inconsistent direction due to
incorrect sourced power for the shot. Poor pitching is another area of
golf that is created through shaft lengths being too short. Shafts that are too
stiff can also cause loss of distance and accuracy. They often cause the player
to swing too hard with their arms which creates unbalanced finishes. Incorrect lie angle will affect a players game in many ways. Firstly when playing incorrect lie angles, a player will hit poor direction with their best swing and have to make a compensated swing to get the ball to fly straight. If the player has incorrect lie angles it will mean the player has to create different swings for each iron to hit them all one direction. A right handed player who has irons that are lie angled too flat will often lose his/her short irons to the right side whilst pulling left or slicing their longer irons. The outcome depends on how each individual compensates for the problem. A right handed player who is using irons that are too upright will often lose their short irons left and push their long irons and woods. The most common compensation for this will end up with the player hitting their short irons excessively high and shorter than expected. Too little loft on the driver will often result in unbalanced finish to the swing. This will most likely cause loss of distance and accuracy. The player may notice the iron swing finishes well balanced but not the driver swing. Incorrectly designed wedges both in loft and sole design can cause the best of swings to give poor results. The normal outcome of this is the player changes their technique which is much more complicated and dangerous to the players long term game. Set make up is an important factor so that the player will have enough clubs to play well but not have clubs in the bag that duplicate the same shot. Correct set make up is essential and economical in buying what is needed and not wasting resources. Club head design is important to the player to maximize their directional control and solidity of contact. So what is a precision fit like? Why will a precision fit profit me!
